Rashmi is interested in researching the impact of air pollution on community and environmental health. Her experience lies mainly in the Indian air quality landscape, where she has supported interventions to reform policy, regulation and philanthropy. She has engaged with air quality in a variety of ways, from analyzing strategies for industrial pollution control to assessing air quality landscapes at the national- and city-level. She also volunteers with organizations that design appropriate and sustainable solutions for under-served communities. Rashmi has previously simulated renewable energy systems to inform national energy policy decisions. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, a Master’s degree in Natural Resources and Environment and is a certified lead auditor of quality management systems (ISO 9001:2015).

At Berkeley, Rashmi aims to develop skills in exposure assessment and environmental epidemiology. She hopes to conduct targeted measurements and studies to influence policies that can reduce industrial and other air pollution exposures among vulnerable populations in India, with a focus on identifying novel risks for communities surrounding polluting facilities. Upon matriculation at Berkeley in the fall of 2022, she will work with Prof. Pillarisetti focusing on maternal and child health intervention evaluation in India, and on the analysis of low-cost sensor data used in contexts where little to no air pollution data currently exists.

Rashmi loves food, goofy humour, Afro-pop and all things outdoors.
